In 2007, the FOOLS played the
Georgia Veterans Memorial State Park course in Cordele, 2 days prior to the Georgia
State Amateur Tournament. The course was in ideal condition and the accommodations
were fantastic and extremely affordable.
The weekend started, as always,
with a four man scramble. The FOOLS were divided into 2 groups the Old-Timers
and Whipper-Snappers, with the Old-Timers winning by several strokes.
This
year the first day of the tournament was stroke play, but each golfer played without
knowing who their partner would be. This change was made to keep players who were
out of a hole, from putting their ball in their pocket and thus eliminating any
possibility of winning the individual trophy. The team score is still best ball,
but there is no team strategy involved on how the whole is played. That evening
the partners were randomly selected
the teams broke down like this:
Young
Charles Tim
Jason Justin Big Paul
The Beau Big Irish
Little
Breeze Meally
The second day the partners split into separate foursomes,
so again the best ball premise would include no team strategy.
At
the end of the day Little Breeze and Meally won as a team, and The Beau beat Little Breeze
by 1 stroke in the individual.
Some great memories from the weekend
- | During
the meal prayer, Big Paul prayed for God to Bless his and Justins golf game
the rest of the weekend (despite the fact his partners name was actually
Jason) |
- | Jason
electing to refer to himself as Justin in third person the rest of the weekend |
- | Meally
after finding his ball half submerged in the water electing to play it after hearing
Paul say, You can hit that. Only to take two swings trying to get
it out and covering himself in mud. Later Paul explained, I said you could
hit that, not that you should. |
- | Tim
after hitting his tee ball in the woods, hits a tree on his second shot and watches
the ball bounce behind him and into the water. He takes a drop, hits the ball
off another tree and watches it roll back into the water. He takes a drop and
repeats the process a third time. |
- | The
Beau losing the keys to the car only to remember that he stuck them in a golf
bag, just not his golf bag. He found them in Little Breezes bag. |
